The Rappahannock Model Railroad Club was started ten years ago by a group of O-gauge train enthusiasts looking for a place to share their hobby. A suitable location was found and since then, the club has grown in both membership and layout size.
Today, the club operates a 430 square-foot, multi level layout at its clubhouse at 406H Hudgins Road in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The “Lionel look” of the 1950’s is represented on the layouts upper level, while the lower level is predominantly true-to-scale. At one time or another, however, you will find trains of all eras and manufacturers represented as club members run their own, as well as club-owned trains. The upper level trains run on Lionel’s O-gauge Hi-Rail tracks with an Lionel ZW transformer. The lower layout is operated off of M.T.H.’s Z-4000 transformer and remote receiver, along with the D.C.S. system and Train Master Command Control. The club has many operating accessories which are independently controlled, and switches are thrown by electric switch machines.
The club works hard to keep the tradition of model railroading alive. Club members consider themselves ambassadors of “The Greatest Hobby” and work to promote the joy of model railroading in a positive way. The club participates in charitable and community function throughout the year and each December, the club hosts a model Train Show and Sale in Fredericksburg. The club brings scouting and youth groups in several times each year to watch trains run and teach kids about model railroading.
Monthly meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Hudgins Road Clubhouse and anyone is welcome to join. Annual due paying memberships in the Adult, Teen, and Youth categories are offered at:
